In May 2012, three National University of Rwanda (NUR) staff members and one student were awarded at the national level and two sports teams were champions in their categories.
On 01st May, Phiona Mutoni, a 3rd year student in the Faculty of Law won the 1st prize in an Interuniversity Essay competition organized by MIFOTRA under the theme “How can a youth with good business idea become an entrepreneur”.
On 03rd May in the Media High Council Excellence Awards 2012 Event, two NUR Radio Salus, journalists Terence Muhirwa and Emma Claudine Ntirenganya were awarded different honors. Terence Muhirwa who produces a program called HAMBERE MU RWANDA (Rwanda in the Past) won the Best Culture Journalist Award and Emma Claudine who presents a program called IMENYE NA WE (Know yourself) was the 2nd runner -up for Health Journalist Award.
On 09th May, Immaculate Bugingo, the Chief Executive Officer of NUR Rwanda Gateway Limited was one of four Rwandan women who were awarded for their exceptional efforts in Information Communication Technology (ICT) at an International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Regional Development Forum in Kigali. She was awarded for her achievements as “Outstanding ICT Content Developer”.

On 13th May, The National University of Rwanda (NUR) Ladies Basketball Team won the 2012 Interuniversity Ladies Basketball championship after taking a lead over the team from the Kigali Institute of Sciences and Technology (KIST) in the finals by a score of 89-19.
On 20th May, The National University of Rwanda Football team won 2012 Interuniversity Football competition after beating the team from the Kicukiro College of Technology by a score of 2-1.
All of these winners are proud of their individual and team achievements and that this recognition helps to contribute to the positive image of NUR. .
