The Ministry of Sports and Sulture (MINISPOC) has organized the selection of Miss Rwanda 2012. This event is preceded by a pre selection of ladies who will represent all four provinces of Rwanda and Kigali city at the national level contest. On 14th July 2012, the Southern Province conducted election of three ladies who will represent it. Three elected ladies to represent the Southern Province include two NUR students. This event was organized by MINISPOC in partnership with the University Centre for Arts and Drama (UCAD) and Mashirika Performing Group.
Ladies who contested in the Southern Province Miss Rwanda 2012 pre selection come from different districts of this province. NUR participated as a part of Huye District which is one of the districts of the Southern Province. The National University of Rwanda was represented by three ladies among nine candidates and two of them won the 1st and 2nd runners-up.
Abiellah Deborah Isimbi, a 1st year student in the department of political sciences and the current NUR Miss Campus won the 1st runner-up followed by her classmate, Ariane Umurerwa who won the 2nd runner-up. Aurore Mutesi, a next year KIST candidate in civil cngineering and Miss Muhanga District convinced the judges’ panel to be the best among nine candidates and was crowned Miss Southern Province. Mutesi was awarded prizes including a cheque of one hundred US dollars.
Abiellah Deborah Isimbi and Ariane Umurerwa talking to media after their selection, vowed to perform better at the next level which will be a competition among all provinces and Kigali city candidates. Contestants were evaluated on culture, politics, development, etc. The Southern Province was the first province to conduct the pre selection of Miss Rwanda 2012 as the Western Province will elect provincial representatives on 21st July 2012, the Eastern province on 28th July 2012, the Northern Province on 04th August 2012 and Kigali city on 11th August 2012.
