Research
Research output and publication has grown considerably since 1998 after NUR established a Research commission which grew into a Directorate in 2007.
NUR is building its research capacity, by training professional researchers, enhancing research and publication levels and supervising PhDs. NUR has established four thematic areas of research: (i) Energy, (ii) Food Security, (iii) Environment Climate Change and Disaster management and (iv) Economic Development and Good Governance.
PhD and MPhil programs were introduced in 2007 and a Post-Doctoral program is operational. NUR is now working on approving 15 PhD programs in the near future and plans to enrol 1,520 PhD students and 300 Post-Doctoral fellows by 2023.
Facilities
– 24 laboratories for different scientific subjects like Electronics, Mechanics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Biology and Microbiology, Zoology, Anatomy, Bacteriology, Embryology, Pharmaceutics, Soil science, etc
– A school of ICT with labs for Hardware and Software Engineering, Digital Electronics, Mobile and Wireless, Microprocessor, Microwave and Antenna, Networking, etc
– 80, 000 E-books accessible form NUR network
– E-Journals: subscription to 26 databases, containing more than 33,000 titles of journals
– A library with around 200,000 volumes
– Open e-resources from international universities and partners
– Wireless network inside and around the campus: accessible 24/24 hours every day
– 87 Mbps bandwidth Internet connection
– Students’ accommodation facilities: 9 hostels for 3,300 students, a restaurant, 2 canteens, theaters and sports facilities.
Future perspectives
NUR is enhancing in-house training at Master’s and PhD levels, regularly monitoring the quality of programs, supporting research and publication, in addition to increasing learning and research facilities.
NUR aims at offering quality programs to more students and continues enhancing quality and relevance of programs. For research and graduate training, NUR plans to enrol 4,300 in Master’s programs, 1,500 PhD candidates and 300 Post Doctoral fellows by 2020. Among them, 2,670 Master’s level students and 1,241 PhD candidates will be enrolled in Science and Technology disciplines, with special focus on Agricultural Science, Land & Environment, and Heath Sciences.
Since students’ population is expected to be over 25,000 by 2020, NUR is planning an expansion in size and quality resources.
